Thanksgiving
I am grateful for having a lot of amazing friends and a family that supports me when I need. I am also incredibly happy for having the possibility to celebrate this “event” with the ones I love.

                         The Origin of Thanksgiving

In 1621, when European settlers were almost starving, the native inhabitants decided to share a meal with them. In addition, they also offered them seeds, taught them how to grow them and how to fish. Abraham Lincoln declared National Thanksgiving Day in 1983. Today is a secular holiday, a long weekend for all Americans, who take this time to travel and meet with the whole family. It is a party in the colors of autumn, with unique flavors and traditions.
Traditional Thanksgiving Recipes
We have all had the opportunity to see Thanksgiving day portrayed in American films, where we can see families gathered together and a table full of delicious-looking culinary specialties. The main dish is stuffed turkey (stuffed turkey), served with cranberry sauce or jam, sweet potatoes, green beans and grilled corn cobs. These are the typical ingredients of a Thanksgiving dinner that cannot be missed at any American table on this day. For dessert we have the famous pies! You can choose between apple pie or pumpkin pie, for example. It takes hours to prepare a meal for Thanksgiving Day, which can be used to cook and play with the family.
Do you know that?
In Turkey there is only one Y-shaped bone, called a Wishbone. Tradition says that two participants at the Thanksgiving dinner should grab each end of the bone and break it at the same time. Whoever gets the biggest bone will have his wish fulfilled!
Thanksgiving activities
One of the most curious activities on this day is the forgiveness of turkeys done by the President of the United States personally. Two turkeys are offered to the White House each year for Thanksgiving. Tradition says that the President forgives these two turkeys and they are sent to a farm, where they can enjoy a peaceful life until the end of their days. This tradition is thought to have started with President Abraham Lincoln.
Another activity enjoyed by Americans at Thanksgiving is the Macy's Parade (Macy's Parade) in New York. Whether live or on television, this parade has enchanted young and old since 1924. At that time, animals from the Central Park Zoo participated in that parade. Nowadays, the parade has giant balloons, clowns, masked people, etc.
For sports fans there are also traditions. Detroit Lions (football) participate in a Thanksgiving Day game every year. For some, it is a tradition to watch family play in the living room, for others, directly in the stadium. Americans also take advantage of Thanksgiving to donate their time and / or money to the poorest. Some distribute meals on the streets or in the homes of the most needy.
The day after Thanksgiving is the long-awaited Black Friday. This is the beginning of Christmas shopping, where Americans take advantage of great discounts. Originally, many workers became ill the day after Thanksgiving, paralyzing many cities. Hence the name Black Friday = Black Friday. Would you like to celebrate Thanksgiving in the United States? I am very grateful for many things, but mainly for having the people I love the most, like my friends and family, who make me feel loved and support me in what they can. I am also grateful for having a house, my pets and food every day on the plate.

Sometimes, we do not give much value to the basic things we have on a daily basis, because it is already natural for some people to have certain possibilities, which others unfortunately do not have but would like to have.

What is Thanksgiving?

Thanksgiving is an annual national holiday in the United States and Canada celebrating the harvest and other blessings of the past year.

How did start?

Colonists in New England and Canada regularly observed “thanksgivings,” days of prayer for such blessings as safe journeys, military victories, or abundant harvests. Americans model their holiday on a 1621 harvest feast shared between English colonists and the Wampanoag. Canadians trace their earliest thanksgiving to 1578, when a Martin Frobisher-led expedition celebrated safe passage

When is Thanksgiving day?

In the United States, Thanksgiving Day is celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November, as specified in a joint resolution passed by Congress in 1941 and a proclamation issued by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1942. Since 1957, Thanksgiving Day has been celebrated in Canada on the second Monday in October.

How is celebrated?

In both Canada and America, family and friends gather for a feast on Thanksgiving. Traditional fare in America often includes turkey, cranberries, and pumpkin pie. Parades and football games also have long associations with the holiday.

How did Thanksgiving become a national holiday?

Sarah Josepha Hale campaigned for a national Thanksgiving in the United States during the 19th century, eventually winning President Abraham Lincoln’s support in 1863. He and subsequent presidents proclaimed a national day of thanksgiving annually until 1941, when Congress made thanksgiving official by specifying the day of its celebration.

In Canada, Parliament established a national Thanksgiving Day in 1879.
